“DESTINATION
CHRISTMAS!”
A Christmas Musical for Children
Presented by the HLC Sunday School
Christmas often involves traveling,
shopping, baking and visiting family and friends. These can be distractions that tend to crowd
all of our lives at Christmas. This musical
helps to present the Good News to children.
They learn what Christmas is all about and how it can be an opportunity
to witness to others throughout the year.

GIVING THAT MAKES A
DIFFERENCE
In the
giving of a gift, there are two things that can make all the difference. First, there is the timing of the gift. When
everything is going well and prosperous, an extra gift may not make much of a
difference; but at a time when we are discouraged and struggling, then
someone’s gift may make all the difference in the world. If we know of someone who is going through
such a time, it can be a most valuable thing to share a gift, even if it is nothing
more than a note or a word of encouragement.
Indeed, every one of us needs that gift of hope.
Secondly,
there is the spirit in which the gift is given.
The monetary cost of a gift has nothing to do with the true value of a
gift. The value of a gift lies entirely
in the love that has prompted you to give that gift. Perhaps your mother, as was true of mine,
wore with great pride some little piece of artificial jewelry given by
you. It was cherished much more than any
expensive diamond or emerald brooch.
Why? Because it
was given with a child’s full love.
The most costly gift has no real value if there is no genuine love
behind the giving. The cheapest gift is
priceless, if it comes from the love which could give no more.
You
remember the story from Mark 14, when a woman regarded as an outcast sneaked
into the banquet hall to bring a special gift to Jesus, a gift that some
gathered there thought was overly extravagant.
Yet Jesus paid her the finest of all compliments: “She has done what she could.”
God did
what He could for you and me at Christmas.
He gave us the gift of a Child, the Son of God, Savior and Lord. That a child grew to manhood and went on to
share the gift of Himself, His Gospel words and deeds of love, and finally that
most precious gift of all - His own life – so that you and we might
have life and light eternal. It is a
gift that did not cost you or me anything, but it cost God and His only Son
everything. Such is the nature of their
love for us, each and every day. And
what will be the gift we give to others this Christmas? Will we also give what we can, with genuine
love?
General
William Booth, the founder of what we now know as The Salvation Army, was
preaching at a rally in
Sharon and
I wish that special gift of God’s true love upon you and yours in this Advent –
Christmas season, and on into the coming new year. God’s peace be with
you always.

MORE “THANK YOU’S” HAVE
BEEN RECEIVED FOR QUILTS
The Hayward WELCA
donated a number of quilts for the Flood Relief and last month “thank you’s” were received from two families from the flood
stricken area for the quilts that they received. This month we have received two more notes of
“thank you” from two more families. The
Engler’s from
“Thank you so much for
the quilts. The time and love put into
them makes me feel SO special whenever I see them. What a wonderful idea! We truly feel blessed and know we are a lot
better off than many, but still love the prayers of all” …..The Englers
The following note was
received from the Nelson family of
“To the group
responsible for the nice quilt we received after the flood damaged our area,
“Our property was damaged severely but the main floor of our home stayed
dry. No electricity for many days. All basement was lost, freezer, home-picked
strawberries are missed L. But, we are thankful too. Others are worse than we are. My neighbors perished in the flood. We lived together in our little valley for 37
years. I am a gardener and gave tours to
benefit the Land Stewardship Organization.
It will be awhile before I can do that again. We are retired but active, with grandchildren
and two great grandchildren. Thank you
again. There is something about a nice,
soft quilt to always make a person feel better.
We are using it and it always reminds me of your kind thoughts
