FROM THE PASTOR

PEOPLE STOP ATTENDING WORSHIP SERVICES for a variety of reasons.  For many people it gets to be a gradual and even unconscious departure from earlier priorities, or habits and practices.  For some it may be that they feel unwelcome, or worse, unimportant.  Some may have been hurt by another person of the church or by something that happened while at a church worship or event.  Or perhaps it was something that just happened in their lives, like a divorce, or a death, or a financial crisis, or a severe illness, or some other great tragedy, and so they just started staying away because of some hurt, or a feeling of guilt or shame, or even a kind of fear.

If you have felt unwelcome here, or have felt that your needs were not being met, we invite you to share your feelings with us so that we might better minister to you.  If you feel that somehow, you don’t “measure up” because of some sin or guilt or shame in your life, we remind us that this church, as is true of any church, is a community of sinners – ALL of us.  If you have been hurt, we offer to you our own guilt and confession and we ask for your forgiveness.

Living in a community of God’s people works like a water wheel.  On the one end, we must be filled.  We need to hear the good news of God’s love in Christ Jesus our Lord, and to share together in God’s Means of Grace to us of Word and Sacrament and thus be strengthened in faith.  On the other end, we must pour out, and that includes the sharing of our talents and gifts and serving God and others to the best of our ability.  If either the filling-up or the pouring-out stops, then that water wheel ceases to function.  Christ our Lord does not wish ANY part of His Body, the Church to be dysfunctional.

We do care about you, even if we are not so very good at saying it or showing it.  You are in our prayers.  You are an important part of the Body of Christ.  You are a child of God.

We do miss you.  Christ and His Church miss you.  You have ideas, talents, and abilities that are unique and that can be of help to your church and community.

As your sisters and brothers in Christ Jesus, members of the same Body of Christ, we wish to share in your life…to weep with you and to rejoice with you.

We do miss you.  We do not wish your faith to diminish, but rather that your faith would prosper and grow through a living together with God’s people, hearing God’s Word and sharing in the Lord’s Supper.

We invite you to come and be with us as the people of God, sinners all, as we together seek God’s blessings, God’s forgiveness, so that we may be strengthened and renewed for ministry.

Come and be with us as we seek to serve our lord Jesus together.

LORD TEACH US TO PRAY

This year’s midweek Lenten Worship begins on Ash Wednesday, February 21st, at 7:00 p.m., with a service of Ashes and the Lord’s Supper.

Each following Wednesday evening, there will be a community meal in the fellowship hall beginning at 6 p.m., followed by a worship service at 7 p.m.

This year’s Midweek worship focus will be on the theme of “LORD, TEACH US TO PRAY,” in which we will look at the special prayer that our Lord Jesus taught us, and on what we have learned through Luther’s Catechism about our Lord’s Prayer.  Our prayer will be that we will learn to pray better and be encouraged to pray often and be blessed by the Holy Spirit to know that our prayers are always heard by God as perfect prayers.

COME AND JOIN US for this time of worship, prayer and fellowship together.

PARISH ADULT CLASS BEGINS ON FEBRUARY 14TH OR 18TH

Our winter/spring session will again have two different sessions.  A Wednesday class begins on February 14th at 10:15 a.m., and a Sunday evening class begins on February 18th at 6:30 p.m.

We will have six sessions that will focus on the Passion of our Lord Jesus through use of an epic film made several years ago called “Jesus of Nazareth.”  The first part of each session we will view a section of the film, and then look at the scripture texts that relate to that part of the life of Christ and have some discussion as to its meaning for our lives today.  ALL are welcome to attend either session.  So far, we have about ten people signed up for the morning sessions and about seven for the evening sessions.  More are needed, so please join us.
