ALTAR GUILD
WOULD YOU LIKE TO CONTRIBUTE FRESH FLOWERS?
Fresh flowers for the altar are
a beautiful addition to our worship service.
If you wish to furnish flowers, all you need to do is call the Altar
Guild president, Marlene Thompson (373-3895).
The Guild will purchase and display the flowers for you, and if you
wish, will put an acknowledgement in the Sunday bulletin. Cost of the flowers is usually about
$20. Your generosity and support are
greatly appreciated. Thank you.

NEEDS YOUR HELP
The Circles of the HLC
WELCA are making Health Kits, School Kits and Sewing Kits for Lutheran World
Relief. There is a real need for these
kits. They are asking each woman of HLC
to make ONE of these kits to be given to LWR.
For a cost of $10, Calico Hutch will assemble a sewing kit for you. Checks should be made out to Calico
Hutch. A list of the items needed for
each kit is in your WELCA Handbook. Your
response last year was great! Can we
surpass it this year! THANK YOU for your
help.

IT IS STRANGE, ISN’T IT?
(From
the Oakland/Moscow Messenger)
Isn’t it strange how
a 20 dollar bill seems like such a large amount when you donate it to church,
but such a small amount when you go shopping?
Isn’t it strange
how two hours seem so long when you’re at church and how short they seem when
you’re watching a good movie?
Isn’t it strange
that you can’t find a word to say when you’re praying but you have no trouble
thinking what to talk about with a friend?
Isn’t it strange
how difficult and boring it is to read one chapter of the Bible but how easy it
is to read 100 pages of a popular novel?
Isn’t it strange
how everyone wants front row tickets to concerts or games but they do whatever
is possible to sit in the last row in church?
Isn’t it strange
how we need to know about an event for church three weeks before the day so we
can include it in our agenda but we can adjust it for other events at the last
minute?
Isn’t it strange
how difficult it is to learn a fact about God to share it with others but how
easy it is to learn, understand, extend and repeat gossip?
Isn’t it strange how
we believe everything that magazines and newspapers say but we question the
words in the Bible?
Isn’t it strange
how everyone wants a place in heaven but they don’t want to believe, do or say
anything to get there?
Isn’t it strange
how we send jokes in e-mails and they are forwarded right away but when we are
going to send messages about God, we think about it twice before we share it
with others?
WHY GO TO CHURCH?
A
church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it
made no sense to go to church every Sunday.
“I’ve gone for 30 years now,” he wrote, “and in that time I have heard
something like 3,000 sermons. But, for
the life of me, I can’t remember a single one of them. So, I think I’m wasting my time and the
pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all.”
This
started a real controversy in the “Letters to the Editor” column, much to the
delight of the editor. It went on for
weeks until someone wrote this clincher:
“I’ve
been married for 30 years now. In that
time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals.
But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single
one of those meals. But, I do know this. They all nourished me and gave me the
strength I needed to do my work. If my
wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for
nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!”
ANGELS EXPLAINED BY CHILDFREN
I
only know the names of two angels: Hark
and Harold. ---Gregory, 5
Everybody’s got it all wrong. Angels don’t wear halos anymore. I forget why, but scientists are working on
it.—Olive, 9
It’s not easy to become an angel! First, you die. Then you go to heaven, and then there’s still
the flight training to go through. And
then you got to agree to wear those angel clothes. – Matthew, 9
Angels work for God and watch over kids
when God has to go do something else. – Mitchell, 7
My guardian angel helps me with math,
but he’s not much good for science. – Henry, 8
Angels don’t eat, but they drink milk
from Holy Cows!! – Jack, 6
Angels talk all the way while they’re
flying you up to heaven. The main
subject is where you went wrong before you got dead. – Daniel, 9
When an angel gets mad, he takes a deep
breath and counts to ten. And when he
lets out his breath, somewhere there’s a tornado. – Reagan, 10
Angels have a lot to do and they keep
very busy. If you lose a tooth, an angel
comes in through your window and leaves money under your pillow. Then when it gets cold, angels go north for
the winter. – Sara, 6
Angels live in cloud houses made by God
and His Son, who’s a very good carpenter. – Jared, 8
All angels are girls because they gotta
wear dresses and boys didn’t go for it. – Antonio, 9
My angel is my grandma who died last
year. She got a big head start on
helping me while she was still down here on earth. – Katelynn, 9
Some of the angels are in charge of
helping heal sick animals and pets. And,
if they don’t make the animals get better, they help the child get over it. –
Vicki, 8
What I don’t get about angels is why,
when someone is in love, they shoot arrows at them. – Sarah, 7
