A MESSAGE FROM PASTOR Spande
Advent will be upon us by the time you are reading this. The first Sunday in Advent, Nov. 29, Pastor Bob and I will be exchanging pulpits. We feel it is important to keep this tradition up during the interim. He and I have also agreed to spend time talking regularly so that there will be good communication between the two parishes.
As you have probably noticed I do not use my article in the newsletter to write a devotional. Instead, I use the space to communicate about things that are happening in the parish. I find this is especially important when I am doing interim ministry. However, even in the years before doing interim work, I tended to do the same thing. I feel good communication is extremely important, especially in times of change.
First, let me explain something that was in the minutes of

On to another subject. When I was interviewed for this position I explained to the committee that I had would only take the job if I was able to take a couple of trips to see our grandchildren. I will be gone the weekend of Dec. 13 when we go to NYC to see our 9 year granddaughter and her parents. That Sunday Leslie Neist will conduct worship. The standard interim contract calls for one week off for every ten weeks of service. By then I will actually have been with you ten weeks.
January 20 we will go to
We have learned to accept that we don’t see our children and grandchildren often but for us it is a priority to see them at least twice a year. The grandchildren are growing up so fast and we want to be able to be part of their lives as much as we can. This is a large part of why we retired.

Finally, I am doing fairly well on shut in visitation.
This is my update for this
month.

Co-Chair
From the Council Chair:
In the interest of improving communications between the church council members of the congregation I have decided to include a message “From the Council Chair” from time to time in our monthly newsletter. This is my first installment. My concern this time is the ready reserve debt we are currently servicing. We owe in excess of $5,000 and are paying a rather high interest rate on that loan. We have been doing very well lately in meeting our monthly financial obligations, but the ready reserve obligation is a constant millstone weighing us down. My recommendation is that we pay it off. It is not a pleasant thing to come to the membership asking for more money, especially when so many of you are already doing so much for our financial well being. My suggestion is this: If you are in a financial position where you can make an additional contribution to help pay off this debt then make whatever contribution you think is appropriate. If you are not in a position where you can realistically contribute toward the payment of this debt then don’t, and please do not feel guilty about it. You are doing all you can do and need do no more.
Thank you all for considering this matter.

the convention. They received 193 jars, baskets, canisters, etc. They were so

THIS
‘N’ THAT
On moving day for the Malms, Faye Learn made some
outrageous bars that everyone has been talking about. Faye has decided to share
the recipe so we can make them at home whenever we like. Thanks Faye!!
Caramel Bars
32 caramels, unwrapped
2/3 cup evaporated milk (we didn’t specify last month, but it is 2/3 cup)
1 cup flour
¾ cup oatmeal
½ cup packed brown sugar
½ tsp soda
1/3 tsp salt
¾ cup butter, melted
1 cup chocolate chips
Melt caramels with the evaporated milk. ( I do this in the microwave, in a
4 cup glass measuring bowl, 2 minutes then stir, then additional minutes going
by 1-2 minutes at a time, till thoroughly blended).
Combine dry ingredients, mix in butter. Reserve 1 cup for topping. Press
the rest in bottom of a 9 x 13 pan. Bake at 350 for 12 minutes. Sprinkle
chocolate chips over baked crust, let sit a few minutes til chips are melted,
spread over crust. Drizzle caramel mixture over chocolate chips then lightly
spread with knife. Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture ovet the top ( I take a
small piece and pat it out in my fingers and place on top, continue dropping
over the entire top). Bake 20 minutes at 350. Cool for 2 hours.
Enjoy!!!!!!
