THE PARISH NEWS
HAYWARD-TRONDHJEM
LUTHERAN PARISH
September 2011
From Pastor Katie:
“For surely I know the plans that I have
for you,” says the Lord, “plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you
a future with a hope. Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I
will hear you.” Jeremiah 29:11-12
The plans that
God had for the people of Israel, the prophet Jeremiah told them, was to bring
them home out of exile. We are not far from home, as they were, but are perhaps
we are no less curious about the plans God has for all of us.
We are doing a
lot of planning for September, not just as children get back to school, but as
a faith community. On Tuesday, September 13 we will have a planning meeting
with Bart from Lifetouch to start planning a new pictorial directory. Look for
more information on that in the months ahead – our photo sit-down days will be
November 3-5. On Sunday, September 18 we will have a big celebration for all of
We are also doing
some new planning in worship, thanks to the addition of our new pianist, Rachel
Carlson. While we were sad to say good-by to Alex Knoll (though very supportive
of his new college adventure), I am happy to have Rachel come on as a young but
experienced musician. All of us can look forward to working with her to see how
her gifts and the gifts of our congregations meet, to give glory to God and to
make beautiful music.
No matter our
best laid plans, it is often difficult to predict how things turn out. I look
forward to the fall with all of you and seeing what all we can do together. And
I trust that God does have plans for us, plans for a future with a hope, that
we can trust in no matter what happens.
God’s peace,
Pastor Katie

Re:
As most of you know by now, the parsonage is finally sold. I
still do not know who the new owners are, perhaps some of you will have this
information by the time you read this. It doesn’t really matter for the
purpose of this letter. I am writing to you to address the issue of what
is to be done with the income from the sale. After all closing costs are
taken care of, we can expect an amount close to $105,000. Of this
