Minutes of the September Church Council Meeting The Hayward Lutheran Church Council met September 16, 2001 at 12:00 noon. Present were Bev Noland, Steve Tufte, Karin Shelton, Dean Anderson, Paulette Paulson, Jean Skaar, Wes Tennis, and Pastor Scott Meyer. A prayer was offered by Pastor Scott. The meeting was called to order by President Bev Noland. The Secretary's minutes were presented by Jean Skaar and approved. The secretary's minutes will appear in full in the newsletter or may be abbreviated per the secretary's discretion. The treasurer's report was presented by Karin Shelton and approved. We have received only four responses from Simply Giving. Scott will be speaking with a Lutheran Brotherhood representative and s\ask for a presenter to present something to the congregation. Old Business Bev reported that $1021 was deposited for the Westland fundraiser. The expenses will be deducted from that and we will hold the money for the Westlands until they are ready for it. Committee Reports No reports from mission statement committee, evangelism, or worship committees. The Board of Education reported that Sunday School teachers are in place and enrollment is up. Building and Grounds Dean reported that the church roof is completed and we have insurance money for the parsonage roof. We can shingle on top of the old shingles for a cost of approximately $1500. Dean will contact Obert from Trondjhem for their approval. Dean also reported that the basement walls in the parsonage have been stripped. They will need cleaning and painting. Steve Kraushaar will take care of wiring for new heaters. Nothing has been done on the windows. Long Range Planning The committee met earlier and recommended pursuing the construction of a lift. Wes recommended more bids, visits to several local churches. We will present the council's recommendation after the October meeting and the congregation will be asked to vote at the annual meeting. Further Old Business Bev reported that Jerry bought a printer for $100. There has been no reply following the LeAnn Juveland injury. We will plan to repaint the slow sighs in the Spring. We donated $300 to the Freeborn County Ministerial Association. Of that $93 was collected in a special offering. A question was raised whether we have received the rebate from the new computer. New Business Bev presented information about a new copier since our old copier lease is up. She was directed to do more research on this as we do not have enough information. A check for $10 was given for a carpet fund. We do not have a carpet fund. This will be put in the building fund and designated "for carpet." Money can be added to the organ fund CD in amounts of $100. Contributions will be placed in the general fund until they accumulate to that amount. As worship committee chair, Jean was appointed to head an organ committee and prepare a report for the annual meeting. Pastor Scott would also like to have a memorial committee. No action was taken on this. Karin Shelton turned in her resignation as church treasurer. This will be effective December 31, 2001. The next council meeting will be held on October 14 at 6:00 PM. Respectfully submitted, Jean Skaar, Secretary
